Euroscience, Europe's pre-eminent grass-roots science organisation, headquartered in Strasbourg, has chosen Dublin as the winner of the open competition to host the Euroscience Open Forum in 2012.
This follows Dublin's year-long campaign, characterised by tremendous local commitment and wide international support. A fifty-strong Steering Committee representing the public sector, universities, research institutes as well as business and industry came together in a unique partnership to make this happen under the stewardship of the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Government, Professor Patrick Cunningham.
What is it?
The Euroscience Open Forum is a major international event held in a leading European city every 2 years. It is a showcase for the best and most relevant of European science and aims to bring this to the widest possible audience. The event comprises a five day extravaganza of science talks, demonstrations, exhibitions and outreach activities that will bring cutting-edge science to delegates, the general public and school-children alike. Dublin aims to attract 8,000 Irish and international delegates, while engaging with 50,000 local participants in the outreach activities, from 12-16 July, 2012.
Dublin, as a gateway to the world, will draw on a network of leading international experts across all disciplines to develop and implement scientific, outreach and business programmes that are second to none.
This event would provide a platform for Ireland to exhibit the fruits of its substantial investment in research as part of the Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation and further enhance the international standing of Ireland as a centre for scientific and research excellence.
