Date: 24 November 2008
Panel of Experts
The Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA) is charged with providing independent advice to Government across the full range of issues related to public science policy. In order to have more systematic access to the best expertise available within Ireland, the CSA intends to establish a panel of experts, covering the following areas:
- Life Sciences;
- Physical Sciences / Engineering;
- Economics / Public Policy;
- Agriculture / Food;
- Energy / Climate Change / Environment.
Members of the panel may be requested to undertake specific pieces of work on a fixed-term, part-time basis. Tasks may include sourcing data, evaluating literature, drafting position papers and participating in working groups.
Applicants would be expected to hold a doctorate in their specified field and must demonstrate a substantial record of achievement in that field at international level, including research and a peer-reviewed publication record. Appointment to the panel will be based on qualifications and experience (
CSA Panel Selection Criteria (DOC, 1 Page, 673KB))
Membership of the panel will be for a fixed period of 3 years. Appointment to the panel is no guarantee that a subsequent offer of work will be made. Conversely, accepting appointment to the panel does not constitute an undertaking on the part of the expert to meet all or any subsequent work requests. The CSA reserves full discretion to consult with and engage experts who are not on the panel.
Members of the panel will have no automatic entitlement to remuneration. Remuneration will only be provided in respect of work actually carried out by the members of the panel, in response to a subsequent and specific request from the CSA, and will be based on a fixed, daily rate.
Interested parties should send the completed application form (
